Today, let’s learn how to draw Pikachu from Pokémon. Pikachu is cute and shoots lightning, what isn’t there to love about this cute yellow Pokémon?

Pikachu is one of the most recognizable and well-loved characters by kids and many adults who grew up with Pokémon. It’s not just because Pikachu is a cute yellow mouse with red cheeks. Pikachu is so popular because of his adorable personality. Who wouldn’t want to have a Pikachu as a pet?

Pikachu’s eyes are small, very simple, rounded and black. A lot of our drawings use this exact same style of eye, so we don’t need to change anything on Pikachu to make him look kawaii or fit with our art style.

If you want to start with a Pokemon that is a little bit easier, you can check out our other tutorial to learn how to draw Jigglypuff.

A Few Tips Before You Start Drawing

  • Pikachu has long, skinny/thin ears. Try not to make them look too thick.
  • Pikachu’s tail is shaped like a lightning bolt. It sticks up in the back and goes up to and sometimes above the head in height.

Let’s Draw Pikachu – Step By Step

Step 1: For the head, draw 3 separate curved lines. Leave some space between each line, so they do not connect to eachother.
Step 2: Draw the ears from the empty spaces on the top of the head. Try to avoid making the ears too thick.
Step 3: Start with the left most line and draw up. Do the fingers then draw a line back down into the head line.
Step 4: Start with the top line and draw towards the fingers then down and back inside.
Step 5: Draw 2 slightly rounded lines going down on each side to form the body.
Step 6: Finish off the body and draw 2 feet.
Step 7: Start on the bottom and zig zag like a lightning bolt until the top. Go around and back down.
Step 8: Fill in the red areas above with black or close to black color.
Step 9: For the eyes, leave little white circles inside and color the rest black.
Step 10: Draw a little filled circle for the nose. Then draw the mouth.
Step 2: Pikachu has 2 large red circles on it’s face. Draw and color those in with a red color.
Step 12: Now you just need to color to finish Pikachu. You can add a bit of shading if you’d like but it is not necessary. Great work!
