How To Draw A Cute Fox - Kawaii Style

I bet you didn’t know that the fox is one of the most popular animals in Japan! Foxes are believed to bring good luck, so if you see a fox in your dreams or even on TV, it means that something great will happen soon.

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to draw a cute fox by using our kawaii art style with simple lines and shapes. It’s easy enough for beginners but also fun for more experienced artists too!

Our cute fox is based around the red fox but there are 12 different type species of foxes that exist. If you have another color you’d prefer, give it a try!

Art Supplies

Here’s a list of coloring supplies we recommend to use, however, feel free to use whatever you can find around the house!

Pencil, Marker, Sharpie, Pen (Anything you can draw with!)
Paper (We love marker paper but use anything you can find).
Colored Markers (if you want to color the drawing).
Here are what we think are the best colored pencils, best gel pens and best markers for coloring.

Your imagination (feel free to change colors or add things to the drawing!).

If you are already a fan of a particular marker/coloring brand you may want to check out a few of our other guides such for popular brands such as Ohuhu markers, Artzea and Prismacolor markers.

Otherwise, just pick whatever coloring tools you have around the house (crayons, markers, pencil crayons etc.) and just have some fun!

A Few Tips Before You Start Drawing

Remember to leave some empty space on the bottom right of the head, so the tail can go up there.
Change the color if you’d prefer another type of fox – there are a lot of different types!

Let’s Draw A Kawaii Fox – Step By Step

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step1 — **Step 1:** Let’s start our kawaii fox’s face by drawing an outline for the left part of the face. From the head, draw a curve up to the chin part with two sharp, wave strokes on the cheeks.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step2 — **Step 2:** Do the same on the right portion but the tip ends on the jaw part only and won’t touch the chin.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step3 — **Step 3:** Draw an arch above to form the shape of the fox’s face. Leave a space for the ear on each side.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step4 — **Step 4:** Next is to draw two pointy ears. Make a triangular tip to form them.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step5 — **Step 5:** Add a detail on each ear by drawing a line from the pointy tip down to the head.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step6 — **Step 6:** Draw two round circles for the eyes. Make a smaller circle inside of each eye. Shade the larger portion black.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step7 — **Step 7:** In the middle of the eyes, draw a cute inverted triangle for the nose together with two small U-strokes underneath.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step8 — **Step 8:** Draw a long, slim curve for the tongue. Add a small stroke above each eye for the eyebrows, too.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step9 — **Step 9:** Below the chin, draw some shaggy strokes in like a V-shape. Leave a space on the right portion. See image above as guide.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step10 — **Step 10:** Following the arrows, draw the two front legs.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step11 — **Step 11:** Next to draw is the left back portion of the fox’s body. From the neck, draw a curved line downwards then another stroke connecting it to the leg part. See image as guide.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step12 — **Step 12:** Continue the body by drawing a line in between the legs then end with a curve on the right portion.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step13 — **Step 13:** Start drawing the fluffy tail by making a wide stroke that will close up to the gap on the fox’s jaw.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step14 — **Step 14:** Finish the tail with another stroke with a pointy tip. Follow the arrow to complete.

howtodraw-a-kawaii-fox-step15 — **Step 15:** Add a round blush on each side of the cheeks for that kawaii look.

howtodraw-a-cute-fox-step16 — **Step 16:** Coloring time! Kawaii foxes usually have a combination of orange and white and that’s what we have here. You can play with other shades like beige or cream, too. Enjoy!
