At first glance, the hair probably looks a little complicated but when you follow the step by step guide below, you’ll see it’s easier than you think.

Let’s Draw A Horse – Step By Step

Note that the right tip is slightly lower than the left tip.

From the ear portion again, make another curl by making a J-shaped stroke with a spiral tip.

Draw a vertical wavy line inside the right ear section – near the left margin of the ear.
Draw the left ear, as well.

To add more volume to the hair, make a huge curve stroke outside the head, starting from the bottom of the left ear all the way to bottom of the right ear. End it with a nice spiral with a bigger space from the face.

One small spiral stroke – upwards. While the other one stretches at the cheeks of the horse with an inward curl. See image above as guide.

One small spiral touching the face.
Then, two extensions connected to the longer curl – one small swirl upwards and another longer curve extending at the bottom of the curl.

Follow the arrows up and down to create the curves.

Add some curvy lines to the hair on right section, too.

Don’t forget to add a little stroke for the mouth.

Add some shadow on the right ear, as well as at the bottom of the face and abdomen using darker shades. Don’t forget the hoofs, too!
The hair looks wonderful if you have some highlights!
It’s really up to you how to make it pretty! Thumbs up!
